Red dress exhibit marking murdered
Of the 10 dresses that were part of a project representing missing and murdered aboriginal women, only two remain.

Jaime Black, the First Nations artist who created the Redress project, was in Wolfville Oct. 25. She told a small audience that the visual reminder of the missing and murdered aboriginal women was more damaged at Acadia than other campuses.

RSS: Sartorial correction
If fashion reflects political culture, then news that the RSS may finally change its trademark uniform is a welcome sign. The antediluvian skirt-like khaki knicker, sources say, may soon give way to a modern, streamlined silhouette. Some may see this as an impulse toward contemporisation and embracing innovation; others as merely a rational sartorial course-correction.

Holding it in, letting it go
Growing up, I had always loved my parents’ bedroom.

I think the allure had something to do with the transformative effect it had on them. Even from a young age, I could see the moment my mother stopped being a working woman and became my parent again, simply by changing into more comfortable clothes.

I remember one time in particular that I joined my mother upstairs to tell her about my day at school. Nothing of interest happened, but I was telling her anyway when I saw her, after exchanging slacks for sweatpants, let out a deep exhale. Her posture relaxed, her stomach expanded and I was mystified — she looked like a different person. My mother saw my confusion but her explanations, while patient, did nothing to clear up the situation.

Handmade dresses offer love
JONESBORO — One stitch at a time, members of Mount Zion Baptist Church sewed over 200 dress for orphaned girls in Africa.

Each dress, made from a pillowcase, contains the love and hope the Women on Missions group has for every little girl who will wear them.

“These dresses indicate somebody cares,” said Judy Bray, a member of WOM.

Palestinians Revive Wedding Traditions
For the third year running, a colorful parade showcasing traditional Palestinian bridal dresses livened up the streets of the town of Birzeit. The “Flower of the Countryside” competition, organized by the non-governmental organization Rozana and local partners, aims to revive Palestinian heritage and culture in the form of the pre-1948 “zaffa,” or wedding march.

First Egyptian designer to touch foot in New York
The storage room of any textile manufacturer might be a staff-only area; but that is where she could be found at any given day, sitting between the endless meters of fabrics, thinking about her upcoming creations. Fashion designers around the world constantly dwell about silhouettes and concepts while she silently pursues her love affair with fabrics.

Norine Farah is a local fashion designer that only decided to turn her extensive passion towards fabrics into a career a year ago. Today, she celebrates her first international victory upon returning from a successful display in Tiffany’s fashion week New York.

The 10 Dreamiest Looks From Bridal Fashion Week
"Where are all the jumpsuits?" a guest wondered after a show at New York Bridal Week, mid-October's weddings extravaganza, which capped last week. It was a fitting question for a relatively traditional winter bridal season that saw a lapse in the separates, masculine suiting, and '70s accents that were de rigueur in past seasons. Though boundary-pushing designers like Angel Sanchez and Houghton continued to chip away at the concept of the staid white bridal gown — showing sequined tracksuits and undulating pink-ribbon-adorned gowns — many designers opted for the middle ground instead, sending updates on tried-and-true romantic silhouettes down the runway.

That Moment I Listed My Never-Worn Wedding Gown on eBay
One day in 2009, Halloween to be exact, my mom and I went shopping at the mall and began looking for wedding dresses. Let me set the scene: my ex-boyfriend and I had been together over one year and he wanted to move in together. I did not. I have written about him before. He's the douchebag that I lived with, who broke up with me over text message. Yup, that happened. Anyway, we moved in together after all and things were going well, and when he told me he wanted to marry me, I said sure.
